UPSC 2026 Key Highlights & Exam Calendar

UPSC has released the official Annual Calendar 2026. Major exams and their tentative 2026 schedule (always verify on upsc.gov.in):

• Civil Services (Prelims) 2026 (IAS/IPS/IFS): Notification – 4 Feb 2026 | Last Date – 27 Feb 2026 | Exam – 24 May 2026

• NDA & NA (I) 2026: Exam – 12 April 2026

• CDS (I) 2026: Aligned with calendar (check exact date on portal)

• CAPF (ACs) 2026: Exam – 19 July 2026

• CMS 2026: Exam – 2 August 2026

1. Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 – IAS, IPS, IFS

This is the most prestigious exam for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and 20+ other services.

Eligibility Criteria

• Age Limit (as on 1 August 2026): 21 to 32 years (General/EWS).

           आयु सीमा: 1 अगस्त 2026 को 21 से 32 वर्ष (जनरल/ईडब्ल्यूएस)।

• Age Relaxation: OBC – 3 years, SC/ST – 5 years, PwBD – 10 years (additional for OBC/SC/ST), Ex-servicemen, etc.

           आयु में छूट: ओबीसी को 3 वर्ष, एससी/एसटी को 5 वर्ष, PwBD को 10 वर्ष आदि।

• Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university (final-year students can apply).

           शैक्षणिक योग्यता: किसी भी मान्यता प्राप्त विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक डिग्री (अंतिम वर्ष के छात्र भी आवेदन कर सकते हैं)।

• Nationality: Indian citizen (certain relaxations for Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees, etc.).

            राष्ट्रीयता: भारतीय नागरिक (कुछ विशेष श्रेणियों के लिए छूट)।

• Number of Attempts: General – 6, OBC – 9, SC/ST – Unlimited (till upper age limit).

            प्रयासों की संख्या: जनरल – 6, ओबीसी – 9, एससी/एसटी – असीमित।

• Physical Standards: No specific height/chest for CSE (except for certain services like IPS which have medical fitness standards checked later).

           शारीरिक मानक: CSE के लिए कोई विशेष ऊंचाई/छाती नहीं (कुछ सेवाओं जैसे IPS में बाद में मेडिकल फिटनेस चेक होती है)।

Selection Process

1. Preliminary Exam (Objective)

2. Mains Exam (Descriptive – 9 papers)

3. Personality Test (Interview – 275 marks)

Exam Pattern (Prelims): Two papers – GS Paper I (200 marks) & CSAT (qualifying). Negative marking applies.

2. National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy Examination 2026

Entry to Army, Navy & Air Force wings after 12th standard.

Eligibility Criteria

• Age Limit: 16½ to 19½ years (unmarried male & female candidates). Born between specific dates as per notification.

           आयु सीमा: 16.5 से 19.5 वर्ष (अविवाहित पुरुष एवं महिला)।

• Educational Qualification: 12th Class pass or appearing (Army: any stream; Navy/Air Force: Physics & Maths compulsory). शैक्षणिक योग्यता: 12वीं पास या उपस्थित (आर्मी: कोई भी स्ट्रीम; नेवी/एयर फोर्स: फिजिक्स एवं मैथ्स अनिवार्य)।

• Physical Standards: Strict medical & physical fitness standards (height, weight, eyesight, chest expansion etc. as per defence guidelines – detailed in notification).

         शारीरिक मानक: ऊंचाई, वजन, आंखों की रोशनी, छाती विस्तार आदि का सख्त मेडिकल टेस्ट (नोटिफिकेशन में विस्तार)।

Selection Process: Written Exam → SSB Interview → Medical Examination.

चयन प्रक्रिया: लिखित परीक्षा → SSB इंटरव्यू → मेडिकल परीक्षा।

Exam Pattern: Mathematics (300 marks) + General Ability Test (600 marks).

परीक्षा पैटर्न: गणित (300 अंक) + जनरल एबिलिटी टेस्ट (600 अंक)।

Application Fee: ₹100 (exempted for females/SC/ST).

आवेदन शुल्क: ₹100 (महिला/एससी/एसटी को छूट)।

3. Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination 2026

For entry into Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) & Officers Training Academy (OTA).

Eligibility Criteria

• Age Limit: Varies by academy – IMA/INA: 19-24 years; AFA: 20-24 years; OTA: 19-25 years (marital status rules apply).

           आयु सीमा: अकादमी के अनुसार अलग-अलग (19-25 वर्ष)।

• Educational Qualification: Graduation (specific subjects for AFA/INA).

           शैक्षणिक योग्यता: स्नातक (एयर फोर्स/नेवल के लिए विशिष्ट विषय)।

Recruitment for BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB as Assistant Commandant.

Eligibility Criteria

• Age Limit: 20 to 25 years (as on 1 August 2026).

• Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree.

Physical Standards (PST)

• Male: Height 165 cm, Chest 81 cm (5 cm expansion), Weight 50 kg.

For medical officers in various Central Government organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification: MBBS degree (final-year students eligible).

शैक्षणिक योग्यता: एमबीबीएस डिग्री (अंतिम वर्ष के छात्र भी)।

Physical Standards: As prescribed for medical services.

शारीरिक मानक: मेडिकल सर्विसेज के अनुसार।

Selection Process: Written Exam (Paper I & II) → Interview/Personality Test.
